RESIDENCE RENEWAL FOR STUDENTS
I-INTRODUCTION
To remain in Spain legally during this entire training stage, like any non-EU foreign citizen, it is necessary to process a Stay Authorization for Studies.
This authorization is characterized by the fact that it lasts for one year and, like any other permit, it can be renewed once it expires.
II-RENEWAL OF THE STUDENT CARD
Legally, the renewal of the student card is known as the Extension of authorization
to stay for studies, it is an annual extension of this authorization to carry
out studies, student exchanges, non-work internships or volunteer services in
Spain. The annual extension of the stay of family members of foreigners staying
for studies, student exchange, non-work internships or volunteer services is
also authorized.
III-REQUIREMENTS TO RENEW THE STUDENT CARD
They are the following :
-a-Not be a citizen of a State of the European Union, the European Economic Area or Switzerland, or a family member of citizens of these countries, to whom the Union citizen regime applies.
-b-Have no criminal record in Spain or in their previous countries of residence for crimes existing in Spanish law.
-c-Not being prohibited from entering Spain and not appearing as rejectable in the territorial space of countries with which Spain has signed an agreement in this regard.
-d-Have sufficient financial means to cover the expenses of stay and return to their country and, where appropriate, those of their family members, in accordance with the following amounts:
-d1-For its support.
-d2-For the support of their families.
-e-Have public or private health insurance that covers the risks normally insured for Spanish citizens.
-f-In the case of minor students who are not accompanied by their parents or guardians, their authorization.
-g-Prove that the specific requirements regarding the activity for which you were authorized to remain in Spain continue to be met (see the corresponding information sheet).
-h-Have passed the tests to continue their studies, or continue with non-work practices or continue volunteer services. This requirement may be accredited through carrying out studies or research in the territory of another Member State of the European Union, within the framework of temporary programs promoted by the Union itself.
IV-DOCUMENTATION TO RENEW THE STUDENT CARD
Is the following :
-a-Application form on official model, duly completed and signed by the foreigner or his legal representative if he is a minor.
-b-Valid passport or travel document.
-c-Documentation proving that you have the necessary financial means for the period requested and for the return to the country of origin.
-d-In the case of minor students, authorization from parents or guardians stating the center, organization, entity and body responsible for the activity and the planned period of stay.
-e-Documentation proving that you have medical insurance.
-f-Documentation proving that you meet the specific requirements regarding the activity for which you were authorized to remain in Spain.
-g-If applicable, documentation proving that you have passed the tests and continue with your studies, research or training, non-work practices or volunteer service.
-h-Administrative fee.
-w1-Note-In general, copies of the documents must be provided and the originals must be displayed at the time of submitting the application.
-w2-Important note-When documents from other countries are provided, they must be translated into Spanish or the co-official language of the territory where the application is submitted.
-w3-On the other hand-Every foreign public document must be previously legalized by the Spanish Consular Office with jurisdiction in the country in which said document was issued or, where appropriate, by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation except in the case in which said document has been apostilled by the competent Authority of the issuing country according to the Hague Convention of October 5, 1961 and unless said document is exempt from legalization under the International Convention.

V-TIME AT WHICH THE STUDENT CARD MUST BE RENEWED
Like any card, the permit must be renewed to be able to remain in Spain legally.
Here there are two deadlines :
-a-Within 60 calendar days prior to the expiration date of the authorization.
-b-It may also be presented within 90 calendar days, without prejudice to the initiation of the corresponding sanctioning procedure.
VI-PLACE WHERE TO PRESENT THE RENEWAL OF THE STUDENT CARD
Aspects :
-a-The renewal of the student card must be done at the Immigration Office, the one that corresponds to your place of residence.
-b-The office has a period of 3 months counting from the day following the date on which it has been entered in the registry of the body competent in its processing.
-c-After this period has elapsed without the Administration having carried out the notification, it may be understood that the request has been rejected due to administrative silence.
-d-When it has not been possible to notify the resolution, it will be announced on the Single Edictal Board (TEU). If electronic notification has been chosen or if regulations are required to use this means, the resolution will be notified by publication on the electronic headquarters.
VII-SUBSEQUENT APPLICATION FOR THE PHYSICAL STUDENT CARD
Request for a physical copy-Within
one month from the notification, the foreigner must personally request the foreigner's
identity card at the Immigration Office or Police Station of the province where
the authorization has been processed.
Fingerprint processing - At the time of the fingerprint processing, the applicant will show his or her passport or travel document and provide :
-a-Application for a foreigner card, in official form.
-b-Proof of payment of the card fee.
-c-Three recent color photographs, on a white background, passport size.
